Thomas Rhett – Country Again, Side A

THOMAS RHETT has reached the pinnacle as a performer. From appearing on Saturday Night Live to holding court as reigning ACM Awards Entertainer of the Year following up with Male Artist of the Year at the awards this month. After keeping up with the velocity of a whirlwind career, Thomas Rhett’s journey continues with the release of part one of his fifth studio double album: COUNTRY AGAIN: SIDE A.

“Country Again: Side A is everything I wanted to say when I was 19 years old, but hadn’t lived enough to know how to say any of those things yet,” Thomas Rhett shared. “It’s about the crazy journey that took me out into the world over the last ten years and ultimately brought me back home, more centered and content than ever, with a deep understanding for what’s important in life. I’ve had a blast sharing some of these songs in their acoustic form during quarantine and am blown away by the reaction the fans have already shown.”

With SIDE B planned for release later this year, COUNTRY AGAIN: SIDE A is entirely co-written by Thomas Rhett and is the result of a return to his initial inspirations as a young songwriter with a new perspective that comes from the challenges of 2020 and life in-between. It’s a musical and thematic return to his roots for Thomas Rhett, an embrace of the sounds, stories, and methods that drew the superstar singer-songwriter to Country music, yet required ten years of life experiences to have the perspective to write them. From the introspective title to track to personal moments like “To The Guys That Date My Girls,” a heart-stopping ode to his daughters and the rawness of grappling with the death of a close friend on “Heaven Right Now,” Thomas Rhett reaches new creative heights blending his penchant for authentic songwriting and current state of mind.

Caitlyn Shadbolt – Oxygen

With the release of her 2017 debut album, Caitlyn Shadbolt was touted as ‘one to watch’ and a ‘rising star’. Her single “My Breakup Anthem” was the #2 Most Played Country single that year (only held out of the top spot by Sam Hunt’s “Body Like A Backroad’). On a roll with hit pop country single after single, Caitlyn performed at the ACRAS that same year; sharing the stage with Dean Lewis and Sheppard. Now the 25 year old emerges with her latest album STAGES and a more polished feel to her songwriting and ever evolving music career.

“OXYGEN” is the new track to drop from STAGES and is a departure from her past pop-country releases; the single being a pure pop track. Discussing the track, Caitlyn says, “I am so excited to finally release Oxygen as a single. It feels like a new chapter for me, pushing boundaries I haven’t yet pushed. I wrote this song with Liam Quinn & Pat Byrne, they really helped me to explore another side of my writing. This song can be interpreted in a number of ways, but for me it’s about that constant conversation you have with yourself that’s both a blessing and a curse. Can’t live with it, but can’t live without it.” Watch video HERE

The single and album were all produced by Stuart Stuart (Veronicas/Dean Lewis/Sheppard) bringing it to life in his Brisbane ‘Analog Heart’ studio.

A finalist in the sixth season of The X Factor Australia, Caitlyn Shadbolt went on to secure a recording deal with ABC MUSIC/UMA and release her debut album, Songs On My Sleeve (May 2017). Upon release the album hit #1 on the ARIA Country Album chart. First single, ‘My Break-Up Anthem’, held the #1 National Country Airplay Chart for 8 consecutive weeks. Caitlyn was recognised for her achievements by winning the CMC Award for Best New Artist, along with a nomination for Female Artist of the Year.

spill tab – Anybody Else

“she has a sound that transcends worlds” – Pigeons & Planes

“music way beyond the trendy, bedroom pop feel of today’s indie” – Earmilk

Describing herself as a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, part-time tattoo artist and oatmilk connoisseur, rising artist spill tab releases new single ‘Anybody Else’, after independently amassing over 10 million streams on her debut EP “Oatmilk”.

Of the track and video, spill tab says: “This song is cheesy as fuck but I love it, it’s pretty straight forward, a little shameless – the lyrics are sort of a way of expressing my love without openly saying ‘I love you.’ The director and I wanted to something lighthearted and playful for the video, so we decided we would have all of our homies in it paired with different colors and angles and set designs.”

spill tab combines disparate influences into her distinct lo-fi alternative pop sound, drawing on her diverse cultural milieus of her French-Korean heritage, being born in Bangkok and now based in Los Angeles. She was listed as One To Watch in 2021 by NME and Pigeons & Planes.

The infectious cover debuted on Hollywood Hamilton’s RT30 show on 4.17.21, which is syndicated on iHeart Radio over 150+ stations across North America.

Martial Simon spent quarantine pivoting from working as both a DJ and booking agent, to focusing on his production career and launching his own label. The New York-based artist spent the last two decades performing across the country under his DJ Martial moniker, and has been profiled in outlets like Page 6, Daily News, US Weekly, and Wall Street Journal. “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” is out now via his newly-minted label GET SET Records, which Simon founded as a new avenue to showcase music he believes in. Instead of securing bookings for DJs as their agent, Simon will continue championing talented artists by signing them under the wing of his own brand. Check out a quote from Simon below.

My music taste really drove the purpose of this song. I love old records; but also, I’m a huge fan of today’s music scene, and that was the vision for “Let’s Hear It for the Boy.” What developed is an energetic dance cover of the #1 billboard hit from 1984 (in the movie “Footloose”) that’s infused with 2021-style sound. By focusing on strong vocals and a catchy beat, I aimed to stay true to the original while making it blend into today’s music culture.” – Martial Simon

Crowded House – To The Island (Unknown Mortal Orchestra Remix)

After being twisted and turned by Tame Impala, today sees the release of ‘To The Island’ Unknown Mortal Orchestra Remix.

“Another artist we in Crowded House greatly admire is fellow NZer Ruban Neilson ( Unknown Mortal Orchestra ) . Ruban was willing and able when asked to dismantle our single To The Island . His remix has reimagined our song with swagger and grit and some glam overtones …we think it’s transformed in a beautiful way.” – Neil Finn

“It’s a really lovely song and there is this cool slightly menacing glam stomp to it so I ended up drawing more and more of that out until I was playing it really loud and distorting everything and it was really fun to do a variant like that. I think it goes without saying that it’s an honour but I’d feel like I missed the opportunity if I didn’t add that too.” – Ruban Neilson (Unknown Mortal Orchestra)

The To The Island Tame Impala / Unknown Mortal Orchestra Remix will also be released on 7″ vinyl via the band’s D2C store – pre-order HERE.

To The Island is the second single to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming seventh studio album, Dreamers Are Waiting, set for release on June 4 via EMI Music Australia. Pre-order HERE.

Crowded House is Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, Liam Finn and Elroy Finn.

The Whitlams – Man About A Dog

The new single from The Whitlams forthcoming album is a delicious three minutes of pastoral pop “Man About a Dog”.

The Whitlams’ catalogue is full of iconic urban tales, but their new song takes the boy out of the city and places him firmly in the country – driving through the hills to see a “Man About a Dog”, just as the drought breaks.

“On the roof the heavy drops / …break the Silence of the Frogs”. Who else would name drop Neil Young and Arvo Pärt in a song about farmers limping after their escaped cattle?

Skipping dreamily over a propulsive drum track by Terepai Richmond, and with a fluid melody as viral as the best of their long career, this return to the band’s folk / pop origins and is produced by Daniel Denholm who was responsible for the band’s commercial breakthrough “Blow Up the Pokies”.

Tim Freedman will undertake his first regional solo tour during April, May and June to launch The Whitlams’ new single. Of the upcoming tour Freedman says, “The Whitlams have stuck to the cities lately, but with this song being a little bit country it seemed like the perfect time for me to return to the towns we loved playing when we were young and full of the devil.”

Tim will settle in with his piano to tell some stories, reinvent favourites like “Blow Up the Pokies” and “No Aphrodisiac” and play some tracks from The Whitlams’ forthcoming album “Gaffage and Clink” due for release later this year.

Mick Jagger ft. Dave Grohl – Eazy Sleazy

Mick Jagger today unveils an exciting surprise for his fans worldwide in the form of the instant release of a track titled ‘Eazy Sleazy.’ The hard-rocking tune written by Mick in lockdown features Jagger on vocals & guitar in collaboration with Foo Fighters main man Dave Grohl providing his signature powerhouse drums, guitar and bass too.

The infectious ‘Eazy Sleazy’ is every inch a song of our times, full of caged energy, a rock ‘n’ roll attitude and tongue in cheek, satirical messaging. MJ muses about the life we’ve all been living with deliciously dark sardonic humour. He reflects on a world of ‘zoom calls’, ‘home in these prison walls’, poncey books, fake applause and too much TV. With optimism and change in sight he looks forward to the world beyond lockdown and the “garden of earthly delights” that lies beyond.

A performance video clip for ‘Eazy Sleazy’ will be unveiled simultaneously on April 13 featuring Jagger at home & Grohl in the Foo Fighters studio.

Mick commented – “It’s a song that I wrote about coming out of lockdown, with some much needed optimism. Thanks to Dave Grohl for jumping on drums, bass and guitar, it was a lot of fun working with him. – hope you all enjoy Eazy Sleazy”

Dave commented – “It’s hard to put into words what recording this song with Sir Mick means to me. It’s beyond a dream come true. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any crazier……and it’s the song of the summer, without a doubt!!”
