ABBA – I Still Have Faith In You / Don’t Shut Me Down

It’s been a while since we made music together. Almost 40 years, actually. We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we’ve decided it’s time to end it. They say it’s foolhardy to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we’ve recorded a follow-up to “The Visitors”. To tell the truth, the main inspiration to record again comes from our involvement in creating the strangest and most spectacular concert you could ever dream of. We’re going to be able to sit back in an audience and watch our digital selves perform our songs on a stage in a custom-built arena in London next spring. Weird and wonderful!

To all of you who patiently have followed us in some way or another these past decades:

Thank you for waiting – it’s time for a new journey to begin.

“We simply call it “Voyage” and we’re truly sailing in uncharted waters. With the help of our younger selves, we travel into the future. It’s not easy to explain but then it hasn’t been done before.”

“It’s hard to say what’s been the most joyful thing for me (Benny) with this project. If it’s the involvement in creating the concert together with everyone or being back in the studio together again after 40 years. I think hearing Frida and Agnetha singing again is hard to beat. When you come to the arena you will have the four of us together with an absolutely glorious 10-piece band. And even if not in the flesh, we will be right there, thanks to the work of the creative team and ILM.”

“Those first sessions back in 2018 were such fun and when Benny called and asked if I’d (Anni-Frid) consider singing some more I jumped at it! And what songs!! My respect and love go out to these exceptionally talented, truly genius songwriters! Such joy it was to work with the group again. I am so happy with what we have made, and I dearly hope our fans feel the same.”

“When we got back together in the studio I (Agnetha) had no idea what to expect…But Benny’s recording studio is such a friendly and safe environment, and before I knew it I was really enjoying myself! I can hardly believe that finally, the moment has come to share this with the world!”

“They’re such amazing singers those two, I (Björn) was completely floored by the way they delivered those songs. They’re true musicians; totally unimpressed by pop star glamour but still having a great time being creative in a recording studio. The “Voyage” project has injected new life into us in more ways than one.”

“So, again, thanks for waiting! We hope to see you in the “ABBA Arena” and yes – see – because we have infused a good deal of our souls into those avatars. It’s not an exaggeration to say that we’re back.”

The Engagement – Heaven So Close

Melbourne band The Engagement are back with a timely single ‘Heaven So Close’, an uplifting anthem about enduring and overcoming obstacles during hard times. Triple J called it “a poppy sugar hit to meet your cravings.”

‘Heaven So Close’ is now available worldwide on all streaming platforms followed by a debut EP in 2022.

SELFISH SONS – Hard Enough

Selfish Sons are a three-piece band from Brisbane who make rock music with pop sensibility, these brothers have established themselves as eccentric entertainers with a powerful sound. Today they release their new song, ‘Hard Enough’.

The rock outfit consists of brothers, Jordy and Finn who met Jonty in a commercial audition room at the age of 8. This spontaneous friendship grew tenfold through high school after realising their love for infectious melodies and having a laugh was better suited to writing songs ‘tongue in cheek’ for an aptly named band, not getting kicked out of a classroom.

After many devious nights and failed cover attempts, the addictive energy of live shows became an obsession leading to numerous tours and sold out shows up and down the East Coast, endearing themselves as an energetic and passionate upcoming act.

More recently the band have signed on with LA based management teams, ‘Connexion Music’ and ‘Goodlife Management’ as well as independent label ‘Riveting Management’.

Selfish Sons plan to showcase their songs to radio on the East Coast when it becomes possible post Covid.

Michael Waugh – Dark

‘Dark’ is the third single from The Cast (out now). It follows ‘Flying’ and ‘Dirty River’ – which peaked at #13 and #15 respectively on the TMN Countrytown Hot 50 airplay chart. It’s a celebration of the classic pub rock songs of the ’80s – especially Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and Cold Chisel’s ‘Khe Sanh’ – and the pub and club culture of the day.

“Ringers Nightclub in Sale was the place to go on a Saturday night when I was growing up in Gippsland,” says Waugh. “It was a place where FIFO workers from the oil rigs, young dairy farmers, local tradies – and even the odd underage kid – would meet up on a Friday night for a drink.”

The music video, shot by long time collaborator Sean Kirkwood, is directed and conceived by Waugh. He tells of how “we were inspired by music videos from the ’80s – especially Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark and Pat Benatar’s Love is a Battlefield videos. The concept was about living out a night in reverse – almost like you’re piecing together a messy night. The highlight for me though was working with a group of ex-students who play the backing dancers and the young woman at the night club.”

Chris Rose – Made For Loving You

Inspired by the intimacy of love and the importance of remaining present, Chris Rose is entering the Australian country music scene with his heart on his sleeve as he welcomes ‘Made For Loving You’ to his singles slate.

The Port Macquarie (regional New South Wales) singer-songwriter has always been blessed with ample helpings of the perfect combination of beach and bush to inspire his musical output. But when it comes to his latest single, ‘Made For Loving You’, his childhood sweetheart Ruby is front of mind.

Embracing being effortlessly in the moment with the one you love, the emotionally-charged single is centered around Chris’ devotion and commitment to Ruby, his now wife, offering a loved-up country-rock-ballad.

While Chris was inevitably made for loving Ruby, it is undeniably clear he, too, was made for the Australian country music scene. ‘Made For Loving You’ offers a cherished message straight from the heart, taking listeners on an adoring journey through a landscape of intimate vocals, classic drums, soaring pedal steel, and electric guitar melodies.

Spending much of his youth with like-minded friends, guitar in hand, and his songwriting notepad at the ready, Chris always had his sights set on music. Despite earning considerable experience within the industry co-writing with some of the biggest names, Chris discovered his fundamental passion remained to pen his own brand of beautiful, melodic lyrics.

Now, thoughtfully welcoming ‘Mad e For Loving You’, produced by his long-time collaborator, the in-demand Stuart Stuart (Sheppard, Caitlin Shadbolt), the Australian country music scene is set to fall in love with Chris Rose.

The love-struck lyrics are bound to become stuck in your head (and heart).

This prestigious music industry acknowledgement recognised his dynamic and poignant songwriting for primary-aged children. Combining the best of his children’s songs with his unique brand of contemporary Australiana, Shaw has dubbed ‘All Sorts’ “the ultimate Family Album”. The Rolling Stones – Living In The Heart Of Love

The Rolling Stones have today announced the release of 40th anniversary, expanded deluxe editions of their chart-topping, multi-platinum 1981 album Tattoo You, via Universal Music.

The newly-remastered set, out on October 22, will be accompanied by no fewer than nine previously unreleased tracks from the era. The first of these, the irresistible rocker ‘Living In The Heart Of Love’, is available now on all digital services, and Tattoo You (40th Anniversary Edition) is available to pre-order in multiple formats
here.

Today’s announcement comes 40 years to the week since the celebrated album was first released on August 24, 1981, and as the rock ‘n’ roll legends prepare to return to the road with 13 new dates on the No Filter tour in the US. The new itinerary starts on September 26 in St. Louis and extending into November.

Anticipation for the new editions of Tattoo You will be high among Stones devotees and new admirers alike. The 40th anniversary remaster of the original 11-track album includes such enduring favourites as ‘Hang Fire’, ‘Waiting On A Friend’ (showcasing jazz saxophone giant Sonny Rollins) and of course the opening track that’s been a band signature ever since, ‘Start Me Up’ . The deluxe formats will also include Lost & Found: Rarities and Still Life: Wembley Stadium 1982.

The Lost & Found disc contains no fewer than nine songs from the period of the album’s original release, newly completed and enhanced with additional vocals and guitar by the band. Among these, ‘Living In The Heart Of Love’ is a quintessential Stones rock workout with all of the group on top form, complete with urgent guitar licks and fine piano detail.

Other highlights of Lost & Found include a killer version of ‘Shame, Shame, Shame’, first recorded in 1963 by one of the band’s blues heroes, Jimmy Reed; their reading of Dobie Gray’s soul gem ‘Drift Away’; and a fascinating reggae-tinged version of ‘Start Me Up’.

Still Life: Wembley Stadium 1982 is an unmissable memento of the band’s London show in June of that year on the Tattoo You tour. The mighty 26-track set is packed with Stones mega-hits, including an opening ‘Under My Thumb’ and all-time greats such as ‘Let’s Spend The Night Together’, ‘Honky Tonk Women’ and ‘Brown Sugar’.

The Wembley show has covers of the Temptations’ ‘Just My Imagination,’ Eddie Cochran’s ‘Twenty Flight Rock,’ the Miracles’ ‘Going To A Go Go’ and early rock ‘n’ roller the Big Bopper’s ‘Chantilly Lace.’ It also features early live workouts for tracks from the then-new Tattoo You such as ‘Start Me Up’, ‘Neighbours’, ‘Little T&A’ and ‘Hang Fire’.

Universal Music’s Tattoo You (40th Anniversary Edition) follows the 2020 reissue of the Stones’ 1973 landmark Goats Head Soup, which took the album back to No. 1 in the UK. Remarkably, this marked the second time their peerless catalogue had produced a UK chart-topper twice over, after 2010’s deluxe edition of their 1972 staple Exile On Main St.

On first release, Tattoo You, produced by the Glimmer Twins with associate producer Chris Kimsey, topped the charts in the US (where it went quadruple platinum), Canada, Australia and across much of Europe, with gold and platinum awards around the world.

Andrew Farriss – Son of a Gun

Andrew Farriss hardly needs an introduction to music fans. He is the man behind the songs that saw INXS sell more than 50-million albums throughout their career. Consequently his music has been on welcome and constant radio rotation globally for over 3 decades.

Andrew’s new single, Son Of A Gun remains true to the classic wild west inspired country concept of Andrew Farriss’s self-titled album, a collection of songs traversing roots, blues, Americana and country, released internationally earlier this year BMG.

Andrew explained “

Son Of A Gun is my vision of a tragic tale set in earlier times. It’s about a young gunslinging outlaw , who thinks he can solve all his problems with a gun, even though his father warned him that the devil lies on both ends of a gun. However the law eventually tracks him down to a silver mine where his fate is sealed and he winds up in a grave. Even today this still happens.”

A true cowboy track, Son Of A Gun, was penned towards the end of the recording process, specifically for the album release. Andrew wanted a song about an outlaw, a young man who is always on the other side of the law. It evokes imagery of gun-slinging cowboys and an old-Western mentality. The resulting track is actually one of Andrew’s favourites.

“The music was tracked before I had any lyrics written,” he says. “Then I took it back to my hotel room and worked on the melody and the lyric idea of Son Of A Gun on my own, using the template of the instrumental recording that I’d already tracked in the studio. Ironically, that is a very similar way to the way I used to work when I was working with INXS. I would come up with the music bed first. I thought if you can write a music bed that has no singing, and people still like the music, then that is pretty good. When I tracked the music in Nashville the guys thought it was funny that I had no lyric for it, I said, ‘don’t worry, I will be back’. I sat down and listened to the music bed and realised that I had a lyric idea that I always wanted to write a song about, and here it is – Son Of A Gun.”

The film clip for Son Of A Gun was filmed between two continents; “because of the similarities between our farm, Piedmont Station, in Northern NSW and the ranch in Arizona
where I had shot some other videos, we were able to put together the two locations into this video seamlessly.” The clip features local cowboys who also featured in Andrew’s previous western inspired videos Come Midnight and Good Mama Bad. The clip is a cinematic journey of the outlaw – Farriss added that “in these uncertain times where the entire world is struggling one way or another, I think this track and it’s video are a bit of escapism to a different era, like a short music version of the movie Tombstone.”

Son Of A Gun is the fourth single from Andrew’s self-titled solo album . His previous singles – Run Baby Run, released in early 2021, Good Momma Bad, released at the start of 2020, and Come Midnight, released in 2019 – have already garnered strong radio support.
